Interest in electric vehicles in the Czech Republic is steadily increasing and is not merely a reaction to current fuel prices. This was highlighted by Lukáš Kadula from the Transport Research Centre in an interview for Radio Impuls.
According to him, the development of electromobility is driven mainly by long-term factors such as vehicle prices, model availability, and charging infrastructure. There are currently more than 62,000 battery electric vehicles registered in the Czech Republic. Used electric vehicles are becoming increasingly important, accounting for around 30% of the total fleet and up to 40% of new registrations in some periods.
While new electric vehicles are mainly purchased by companies, households are more likely to buy used ones. The secondary market is therefore playing a growing role in the expansion of electromobility in the country. Charging infrastructure remains a frequently discussed topic, often surrounded by misconceptions. The growth of charging infrastructure is comparable to the EU average and is expected to continue expanding significantly.
