Pavel Řezáč featured in the Káva o čtvrté podcast

Pavel Řezáč from the Transport Research Centre was featured in the Káva o čtvrté programme, discussing spring traffic, driver fatigue, and risks that are often underestimated.

Traffic psychologist from the Transport Research Centre, Pavel Řezáč, was a guest on the Czech Radio programme Káva o čtvrté, where he discussed the specifics of spring traffic and the risks this period brings for drivers and other road users.

In the interview, he pointed out that spring marks the return of various groups to the roads – such as motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians – which places higher demands on drivers’ attention and awareness. He also highlighted that the most serious causes of road accidents remain excessive speed, inattention, and driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances.

A key topic of the discussion was also driver fatigue, which can significantly increase reaction time and the risk of accidents. Drivers often tend to underestimate its impact.

On the road, we drive as we are – not only in terms of our skills, but also our level of fatigue, mental condition, and ability to concentrate. Even a brief moment of inattention or tiredness can significantly extend reaction time and determine how we handle a situation.

The interview also offered practical recommendations on how to prepare for spring traffic – such as gradually returning to driving after the winter period, being more considerate towards vulnerable road users, and paying close attention to one’s physical and mental condition before driving.
