The Transport Research Centre has introduced accredited analytical methods for hydrogen fuel quality control in line with international standards, supporting the safe development of hydrogen mobility.
As hydrogen mobility continues to expand, reliable hydrogen fuel quality control is becoming increasingly important. Even trace amounts of impurities may reduce the lifetime of fuel cells, making highly sensitive analytical methods essential.
The Transport Research Centre (CDV) has successfully developed and accredited analytical methods for hydrogen fuel impurity testing in accordance with ČSN ISO 14687 and ČSN ISO 21087. CDV's laboratories now employ advanced chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques capable of detecting impurities at parts-per-billion (ppb) levels.
These accredited laboratory services provide valuable support for hydrogen producers, refuelling station operators and other stakeholders developing hydrogen infrastructure not only in the Czech Republic. They contribute to fuel quality assurance, protection of hydrogen technologies and the achievement of national and European transport decarbonisation objectives.
CDV's work in this field was also featured in the international FIRM magazine published by the FEHRL association (Forum of European National Highway Research Laboratories).
