Geographer for transport research with practical impact
We are looking for a geographer who wants to use spatial thinking and modern geographical methods to solve real-world problems in transport. Your work can help improve traffic flow and safety in relation to the impacts of natural processes (e.g., wind and falling trees, fires, landslides, floods).
Job description:
- You will perform spatial analyses, from methodology design and data processing to interpretation in relation to transport infrastructure and incidents (traffic accidents, transport disruptions, traffic flow restrictions, etc.).
- map and model the impacts of natural processes on networks (identifying weak points, assessing resilience and risks) and propose appropriate measures.
- conduct research on the safety of vulnerable road users.
- collaborate on the development and application of analytical tools in GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS), Python, or R,
- prepare materials for project and methodological reports or professional publications.
What technologies do we work with:
We analyze data using our own tools: STKDE+ / KDE+ to identify traffic accident hotspots. We use remote sensing data, but we also have our own drone fleet. We collect LiDAR data using our own measuring vehicles, perform spatial statistics and geoprocessing in the ArcGIS/QGIS environment, and use Python. We implement the outputs into web map applications used in practice.
Knowledge and skills that will open doors for you at our company:
- University degree in geography/geoinformatics/GIScience or a related field,
- geographical thinking, overview of transport issues,
- experience with GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS) and spatial analysis,
- basic to intermediate knowledge of Python (or R) for data and spatial tasks,
- knowledge of English at B2 level or higher for effective team communication.
We offer:
- Work location in Olomouc (we offer assistance in finding accommodation),
- professional internships, courses, seminars, conferences,
