The aim of the project is to design and test in a real environment a solution for autonomous tram operation on a loop at terminals as a first step towards the automation of tram transport in public transport. The project will develop a concept solution using autonomous vehicles, including a prototype technical solution for an autonomous system integrated into trams and infrastructure at selected terminals in Pilsen. The research and development associated with the project solution is necessary to determine the technical, legislative, and social requirements, and to gain know-how and credibility for autonomous vehicles in public transport. In addition to the development of a technical solution, the project also includes research into risk acceptance and recommendations for legislative changes so that testing in real-world operation can follow.
