Research into the risk of fires along railway lines

Project presentation

The aim of the project is to research and reduce the risk of fire in the vicinity of railway lines, as fires already pose a risk to the safety and smooth running of operations. With climate change on the horizon, their frequency can be expected to increase. The project will enable the resilience and reliability of this critical infrastructure to be increased through the use of an innovative early warning system. The project includes the calibration of a fuel model through field measurements, including innovative methods of remote sensing, the creation of a model predicting the risk of fires, and the identification of locations on the railway network that are difficult to access for firefighting equipment. The Railway Administration will obtain data for fire prevention, firefighting, and a list of potentially problematic locations. The information will be available in the form of a web map application.
