RoboTouch - virtual reality and robotic hand for telenavigation of autonomnous traffic systems

Project presentation

The RoboTouch project focuses on developing a universal portable platform combining robotic gloves and virtual reality for gesture-based control of autonomous transport systems. The proposed solution enables intuitive and natural control of various autonomous vehicles, including delivery vehicles, cars, drones, and vessels.

The project aims to support efficient regulation of multiple autonomous vehicles simultaneously while minimising the risk of gesture misinterpretation. The platform is designed for operation in dynamically changing environments where fixed routes or static operational settings are not effective.

The solution also includes mediated 3D visualisation of vehicle trajectories in space and time, enabling support for platooning operations. In addition, the project investigates the psychological and physical aspects required for remote operators managing autonomous systems.

The main outputs include a methodology for using robotic gloves with virtual reality for SAE Level 4 autonomous system telenavigation and software providing an interactive 3D environment for monitoring and controlling autonomous vehicles.

The project is coordinated by Transport Research Centre (CDV). The project partner is IMSEA s.r.o..
