The aim of the project is to increase the passive safety of vertical road infrastructure elements based on research into accidents involving traffic sign structures and the development of new material solutions. The project focuses on adjusting the stiffness of fibre-reinforced polymer composites to improve their ability to absorb impact energy.
Based on research into the influence of reinforcement types, positioning, and polymer mixtures, an existing system is being improved and a new system of load-bearing traffic sign structures is being developed. These solutions have the potential to reduce the risk of fatalities, serious injuries, and material damage in road accidents.
The project results include functional prototypes of composite signposts, structural solutions with improved passive safety, validated manufacturing technologies, and application guidelines for their use on road networks in the Czech Republic and abroad.
The project is coordinated by GDP KORAL, s.r.o.. The project partner is Transport Research Centre (CDV).
Project CK03000012 is co-funded with state support from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic under the Transport 2020+ Programme.
