Systemization of non-driving activities in the autonomous mode

Project presentation

The project addresses non-driving activities that drivers can perform with increasing levels of vehicle automation. With the deployment of automation levels SAE L3 and L4, new types of activities during driving become possible, particularly in freight transport and in platooning scenarios.

The main objective is to develop a systematic catalogue of such activities for truck drivers and organise them into a hierarchical structure. The project also evaluates their impact on road safety, especially in terms of the driver’s ability to take back control of the vehicle.

Based on the analysis, criteria for assessing the risks of individual activities will be developed for use by transport companies. The project will also deliver a methodology for evaluating non-driving activities and provide conceptual materials for driver education, particularly for the Ministry of Transport.

The project is carried out by Transport Research Centre (CDV).
