Artificial satellites designed for remote Earth observation offer a promising source of data that has so far been used mainly outside the transport sector. The aim of the proposed project is to verify the possibilities and set limits and restrictions for the use of data obtained from Earth's orbit for traffic counting purposes. The suitability of applying this data will be examined not only for the purposes of comprehensive, nationwide traffic counting, but also for local counting, including static traffic counting. The possibilities of automatic vehicle detection on satellite images will also be explored. These procedures will then be integrated into a web map application. In the project, we will perform a cost-benefit analysis of the use of satellite data compared to traffic counts carried out using conventional methods.
This project The utilization of Earth remote sensing data for the purposes of traffic census has been financed with the state support of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic within the TRANSPORT 2030 Programme.
