Transport psychologist Pavel Řezáč spoke on Czech Radio about why motorcyclists are overlooked by drivers and how greater awareness can improve road safety.
In an interview with Czech Radio, Pavel Řezáč, Director of the Transport Technologies and Human Factors Division at the Transport Research Centre, discussed the recent serious motorcycle crashes and the factors that can contribute to them.
He highlighted the importance of motorcyclists being noticed by other road users. Motorcycles are less common in traffic than passenger cars, meaning drivers may be less accustomed to looking for them. One simple way to increase awareness is to consciously identify their presence – for example, by saying “motorcycle” to yourself when spotting one. This can help direct attention to the situation and encourage safer driving.
The interview also addressed the effects of fatigue, high temperatures and time pressure. According to Pavel Řezáč, drivers should not try to make up for delays by taking unnecessary risks, particularly when travelling long distances during the summer holiday season. Arriving later is preferable to putting yourself and others at risk.
The interview was broadcast on Czech Radio's Hlavní zprávy – rozhovory a komentáře programme on 10 August 2026.
