The number of cyclist accidents is rising, especially among e-bike and e-scooter users – last year, they accounted for almost 40% of cyclist deaths. BESIP urges increased caution, helmet use, and adherence to traffic rules.
With the arrival of spring, cyclists are returning to roads and bike paths, which also increases the risk of accidents. The Ministry of Transport, through BESIP, emphasizes the need for heightened caution and consideration.
Recent statistics show that e-bikes and e-scooters play an increasingly significant role in serious traffic accidents. In 2025, riders of these vehicles accounted for nearly 40% of cyclist fatalities. Key recommendations include not overestimating one’s abilities, avoiding alcohol, ensuring visibility, and wearing a cycling helmet.
According to data from CDV’s in-depth traffic accident analysis and BESIP, the number of cyclist fatalities has remained relatively stable, with seniors over 65 being the most vulnerable group. Statistics also reveal a high presence of alcohol or other substances among accident perpetrators on e-bikes and e-scooters and low usage of protective helmets.
BESIP therefore runs preventive programs such as eBike Safely and Safe on E-scooters, offering practical safety advice and awareness campaigns at schools. CDV provides expert analyses and accident data, including insights from the in-depth accident analysis.
