Mapping the accessibility of charging stations for drivers with disabilities

The "Journey to a Dream" project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, has surveyed the accessibility of public fast-charging stations for wheelchair users. Alarmingly, only 15% of stations with a capacity of over 50 kW are fully accessible. You can find the results on an interactive map at cistadoprava.cz.

In collaboration with the organization Cesta za snem and the Ministry of Transport, a unique project has been launched to map the accessibility of public fast-charging stations for wheelchair users. The results of an extensive survey, focusing on stations with a power output of 50 kW or more, reveal an alarming situation—only 15% of these stations are fully accessible.

Data from this mapping is now part of an interactive map on the website cistadoprava.cz, where anyone can see how easy or difficult it is to use individual stations from the perspective of a driver with a disability. The stations are divided into three categories: green (fully accessible), yellow (partially accessible), and red (difficult to access/inaccessible). The project’s goal is not only to inform the public but also to inspire modifications to existing infrastructure and contribute to the creation of new standards for the construction of charging stations that will take into account the needs of wheelchair users.

Supporting the development of accessible infrastructure is key to ensuring equal access to electric mobility for everyone. This project aims to contribute to the creation of a methodology for the future construction of charging stations that would ensure barrier-free access for people with disabilities.

If you come across an unmapped station, please don’t hesitate to contribute by sending its photos and location to volf@cestazasnem.cz. For more details and the current map, visit the Cesta za snem website.
