Not wearing seat belts remains a serious issue. New data highlight the risks and the importance of prevention and research involving CDV.
According to a press release by the Ministry of Transport and BESIP, not wearing seat belts remains a significant risk factor in road crashes.
In 2025, 68 unbelted road users were killed on Czech roads, with an increase in serious injuries compared to the previous year. Data consistently show that crash consequences are far more severe for those not wearing seat belts.
The Transport Research Centre (CDV) is involved in both research and prevention activities in this area, including the In-depth analysis of traffic accidents.
The press release also features a statement from Kateřina Bucsuházy (CDV), who points out that serious injuries among unbelted occupants occur even at relatively low impact speeds, while the risk of fatal outcomes increases significantly at higher speeds.
Seat belt use remains one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce the consequences of road crashes.
