Emergency vehicle responding to a traffic accident

Traffic Accident Laboratory

The laboratory conducts detailed inspections of vehicles after traffic accidents. This activity is carried out primarily as part of the CzIDAS project, which focuses on independent investigation of traffic accidents and all their aspects. The laboratory is used for thorough inspection of damaged vehicles. This mainly involves identifying possible technical faults that could have contributed to the causes or consequences of traffic accidents. As part of the vehicle inspection, photographs are taken, the location and extent of damage is recorded, and the technical condition is described. In particular, the location and extent of deformations on the vehicle are among the most important parameters that are recorded. For accurate documentation, a 3D scanner is used, for example.

Our laboratory is equipped with the latest devices currently available on the market, such as VinTest and µECscan devices for verifying the authenticity of vehicle identifiers, EzCalipre devices for measuring control dimensions on vehicles, the Faro Focus 3D spherical 3D scanner, the Brain Bee serial universal auto diagnostic device, a paint thickness gauge, a brake fluid boiling point gauge, etc.

We perform non-accredited tests:

  • measurement of external vehicle dimensions

    • we measure basic external vehicle dimensions such as length, width, height, wheelbase, and track width.

In-depth accident analysis research

Research related to road safety issues, particularly traffic accidents, is carried out by the Traffic Accident In-depth Analysis Department, which is a unique research activity of the Transport Research Center.
