The article presents the CPX method for measuring road surface noise and examines the factors that influence it. It focuses in particular on surface macrotexture and its relationship with noise generated by tyre–road interaction.
Summary
This article focuses on the issue of road surface noise generated by tire/road contact. It presents a method for measuring the noise using the CPX method and describes types of low-noise surface courses defined by the ČSN 73 6120 standard. It also examines the factors influencing surface noise. These primarily include surface macrotexture, i.e., the texture of the surface as a whole. In connection with macrotexture, the parameters that describe it are presented. Finally, an example of the relationship between macrotexture and surface noise is provided.
