Sustainable transport

Our region is designed to be multidisciplinary.

Its activities include research into the conceptual development of transport towards sustainable mobility and research into the impact of transport on the environment, with a particular focus on addressing problematic areas such as roads with heavy traffic, urban agglomerations, and areas with special protection regimes. We focus on systematic research and continuous monitoring of the environmental impact of transport, determining the values of selected indicators, evaluating their trends, creating methodological procedures, and proposing specific implementation measures leading to a reduction in the impact on individual components of the environment and human health.

We offer support for research tasks related to the creation of new legislation, new policies, and the standardization of technical regulations. As part of our research tasks, we also model the impact of transport on the environment. The main topics addressed are emissions, LCA (Life Cycle Assessment), noise, landscape fragmentation, and biodiversity in relation to transport.

Focus of our research

  • noise levels of road surfaces as a variable parameter of roadways,

  • noise modeling and measurement,

  • cooperation in the field of noise with CEN TC227 WG5, the Czech Agency for Standardization, the expert commission of the Road and Motorway Directorate AB and CB roadways, the Czech Road Society, and the Association for Road Construction,

  • energy intensity of transport and possibilities for its reduction,

  • modeling of emissions at national, regional, and local levels, including LCA,

  • measurement of emissions in real traffic,

  • alternative fuels and drives in transport and systematic development of their infrastructure,

  • adaptation and mitigation to climate change in the field of transport,

  • the issue of landscape fragmentation and biodiversity,

  • research into the impact of transport infrastructure development on landscape formation from the end of the 18th century to the present,

  • supporting research in the field of implementing strategic measures within the state administration.
